AnTEAoxidants - The Return of Hibiscus

The tea with the most antioxidants is hibiscus tea. It has over 400% more antioxidants than green or black tea. Other teas that are high in antioxidants include:

  • Matcha green tea

  • Rooibos tea

  • White tea

  • Oolong tea

  • Black tea

  • Pu-erh tea

  • Yerba mate

  • Green tea extract

Antioxidants are important for protecting our cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage our cells and DNA. They can contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

The antioxidants in tea can help to neutralize free radicals and protect our cells from damage. They may also help to improve our immune system, reduce inflammation, and boost our metabolism.

Some benefits of hibiscus are lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, lower total cholesterol, and improved "good" cholesterol (HDL). Some side effects include dropped blood pressure, headache, and/or nausea. There may also be interactions with some hypertension and diabetes medication, so consult your physician prior to consuming hibiscus.

If you are looking for a tea with a high antioxidant content, hibiscus tea is a good choice. It is also a delicious and refreshing tea that can be enjoyed hot or cold.
